one of the problems
one of the problems is that action-playing has gone out of fashion. Everything seems to be focusing on feeling and impulse and I keep thinking, “Well, if everybody’s doing that what is actually happening in the play?” You know? All this vaguery! … I can’t get away from the necessity of action playing. We need actors who can play actions specifically; actors who can play clearly and cleanly. Too often we just seem to have a lot of things just ‘happening’ between them.
